Pariah River & Canyon, Marble Canyon

Early this morning, the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.  Here the planes are lined up at Escalante Airport.

Back-taxiing on runway 31.  We had the airport to ourselves the two days we were here.  I don't believe another airplane used the runway during the two days.

A look at our campground and the pilot lounge/courtesy car just after takeoff.

Heading southwest past Barney Top.

Bryce Canyon is dead ahead.  But we were not going to Bryce Canyon.  We were heading for the top of the Pariah River which we would follow south to Marble Canyon.

It's pretty desolate on the way to the Pariah River.

And there's the river, or river bed I should say.  Here we go!

Descending past some white cliffs down to the river.

Starting to see some color.

A side canyon points to the white cliffs.

Yeah, there's a little water down there.

Each river is unique in its own way.

We leave the Pariah River and enter the Pariah Canyon area.   At first, its is mostly a "slot" canyon.

We check out the western portion of the Pariah Canyon first.

Cruising low over the surrounding desert area.

The Shadow knows!

Looking west down the Pariah slot canyon.

Now heading east over the Parian Canyon.  Into the sun, unfortunately.

There's the Pariah River, way down there.

A huge sand dune in a canyon fold.

Looking up at some red rock.

Passing by another big sand slide.

And then suddenly the canyon opens up.

And we emerge into the Marble Canyon area.

And there's Lee's Ferry, where the Grand Canyon rafters launch.

Turning south, heading for Marble Canyon Airport.

Looking at the Vermelion Cliffs.

There is Marble Canyon Airport (L41), up and to the right of the little settlement at center.

Turning final for runway 3.

Chuck and I are parked on the ramp while Mugsy taxiis in.

The majestic Vermilion Cliffs.

We walk across the street to the restaurant int he Marble Canyon Trading Post.

The breakfast we had here was my favorite of the entire trip.  Mark likes his too.

Just before we left, a big turbo-prop taxiied in.  This airport gets a lot of commercial traffic, serving Grand Canyon river rafters and sightseeers.
